"I talked to the head coach, Brian Kelly [when they offered]. I talked to the defensive line coach before I talked to Coach Kelly and he was impressed with my leadership skills, my explosiveness, how I attacked the offensive linemen and he was just impressed with everything about me."
In turn, Smith Jr. was impressed with the Irish.
"I loved it down there. It was great. All the coaches, they were amazing. They were teaching me some new information I didn't know, like new techniques and I used them in 1-1s."
This brings the 6'2, 265-lb defensive lineman's offer list to seven, with Illinois, Purdue and Indiana as the other BCS offers. When it's all said and done, that list should include even more schools, so how heavy will Notre Dame be in consideration when decision day comes?
"Extremely heavy," he responded, "because once you look at their academics and their engineering program, which, I want to major in mechanical engineering, that's a great plus."
A recent participant at Michigan and Northwestern's camps as well, Smith will continue to hit the circuit and show he is a big time prospect for the 2014 class.
