"Things are going good," said Hoiem. "I have a verbal offer from Hawaii right now."
So how did it feel to land the first offer?
"It was a great feeling, it inspired me to keep working," said Hoiem. "I can't get big headed; I have got to keep busy working harder."
Hawaii is one of two programs that the 6'4" 206lbs prospect mentioned rooting for in the past.
"I always loved Oregon and Hawaii too, because it is home," said Hoiem. "I wouldn't really say that I have a favorite though."
Hoiem had always believed he could play college football one day, but didn't expect the Warriors to come calling as early as they did.
"Not at all, I was very surprised and thankful for the offer," said Hoiem. "My hard work had paid off; sometimes it is hard to get noticed on Maui."
In addition to Hawaii, Hoiem has seen recruiting pick up from some programs on the mainland.
Hoiem plans on taking his time to make a decision and sees the visits as an integral part of his process.
"I am definitely going to take my time and keep my options open," said Hoiem. "I have been taking trips to see how comfortable I am at places, that is really important."
