Wogan Says Ducks

Porter Ridge High School (NC) kicker Matt Wogan has committed to Oregon, he tells Scout.com

Wogan had previously kicked for Tennessee, South Carolina and Ohio State at their team camps earlier this summer but admitted Oregon jumped out at him the most while visiting last week.

"I love it there," Wogan said. "The people, the environment, the academics, that's the place."

Wogan stressed that head coach Chip Kelly and special teams coach Tom Osborne played a tremendous role in his recruitment and their attitudes were exactly what Wogan was looking for in his coaches.

"He (Kelly) is straight forward, he'll tell you exactly how it is and that's how I like it," he said.

Osborne is said to be one of the most outspoken coaches on the Oregon staff, and Wogan says his connection with him has only gotten better with time.

"The first time we talked it was forty five minutes long and there was just chemistry there," he said. "He always told me a relationship is going to go lower or you're going to build one, and each time we talked it was longer and longer. He fires me up."

The competitive atmosphere of the program also contributed to Wogan's decision. As a Duck, Wogan will be able to compete for a spot on the kickoff, field goal and punt teams.

"They said I can play for a spot on all three, they play the best eleven on all sides of the ball in all phases of the game," Wogan added.

Academically, Wogan was impressed with Oregon's top-ranked sports marketing program.

"Say football doesn't work out, those academics are just going to take me to another level. That's the number one school for sports marketing."

Although Wogan will be far from home, he says his family couldn't be more supportive of his decision.

"My dad said ‘that's where you need to go' he can tell I like it there. Obviously the location isn't great but they're very supportive," he said.

Wogan will arrive on campus as part of the Ducks' 25th ranked recruiting class on Scout.com
