"I'm going to go to Maryland and Virginia," he said. "I'm going to go pretty soon. I want to see what they have to offer, what is there. I just want to see the competition over there."
The 6-foot, 200-pound Edwards added he was being recruited the hardest by Maryland and Syracuse, which he knows the most about.
"I've built a relationship with the coaching staff," Edwards said. "I played against (Syracuse freshman Wayne Morgan). I know about them."
In looking at his finalists, Edwards pointed to a common theme.
"I want trust, I want to play early," he said. "I want a good environment and I want to be in a conference with competition, like the ACC. That's why all my schools are in the ACC."
Edwards originally planned to make his announcement on Independence Day, but moved it back six days because it fit better into his schedule.
"I just wanted to get it over with before I start getting ready for the season," Edwards said. "I feel like my mind is pretty much made up so I'm going to take a couple of last visits to make sure and then make my decision."
As a junior, Edwards rush for 1,304 yards on 181 carries and scored 12 touchdowns.
