Sam visits Tulane

Opelousas (La.) HS '14 WR/DB Mandell Sam recently traveled to New Orleans to check out the Tulane Green Wave, and he talks about it here.

Mandell Sam rode down to New Orleans with a teammate from Opelousas High School.

"It was my first time visiting Tulane," said Sam, who hauled in between 50 and 60 receptions last year for the Class 4A Tigers.

"Tulane has a nice campus. Their camp had the most players of all the camps I've attended. When we first got there at the start of camp, there weren't many people there, but more and more just kept arriving."

Sams talked about first-year Green Wave head coach Curtis Johnson, who was mostly recently with the New Orleans Saints (as WRs coach).

"The Tulane coaches have a lot of NFL experience," said Sam. "To be honest, there were a lot of good players at their camp who had offers from different schools.

"Our head coach from last year, Coach (Larry) Dauterive (now retired), was at East Saint John (5A program located in Reserve, La.) when they had Darion Monroe ('12 Green Wave CB signee)."

What was Sam's reaction following his initial visit to Tulane's campus?

"I like Tulane," he said. "With their coaches and the players they have coming in, I think the program is going to change for the better."

Sam camped with Southern yesterday, he was at LSU last month, and he'll camp with Louisiana Tech later this summer. He's also contemplating Northwestern State's camp.
