A Steal for the Pirates

East Carolina landed a commitment from a four-star linebacker out of South Carolina and Devaris Brunson could do big things for the Pirates.

Scout currently ranks Devaris Brunson as the fifth best prospect in the state of South Carolina. He is a 6-foot-1, 210 pound linebacker out of Lake City High School and he could be a steal for the Pirates.

He still has some work to do academically and that definitely held some schools back from offering him, but he is on track to qualify according to his coach. If he gets to ECU, the Pirate coaches have to expect big things.

If you follow the football when Lake City plays, you will see Brunson a lot. He has a nose for the football, he is very active on defense and on special teams, and he gets in on a lot of plays.

He really packs a lot of punch when he takes on the ball carrier and he is a strong tackler. He drives through his opponent and tackles with force.

Playing with speed on the field with pads on is one of his strengths. He moves well side to side and he plays downhill at a good tempo as well. He has good foot movement and the ability to play inside or outside on the next level.

He is physically ready to play on the next level now. He is a very strong linebacker and someone who is still developing in pass coverage. He is more comfortable playing downhill, but he has a lot of tools the ECU staff has to be excited about.

North Carolina State was the only other offer he held at the time he committed, but do not be surprised if some schools make a run at him later this fall. He is definitely good enough to play at the highest level.
