Florida State got a nice commitment surprise on July 4th with the commitment of three-star linebacker Freddie Stevenson (Bartow, Fla.).

"I committed to FSU around 6 last night," Stevenson said. "Coach [Jimbo] Fisher was very happy and he said he wanted to scream.

"I just felt very comfortable with them not only as an athlete but as student and person. That's what I really liked about it. From the football end I know the system. I know I can go in and fit in the system. I play in something similar. I know I will be able to make plays."

Stevenson, 6-foot-2 and 225-pounds, is one of the state's top linebacker prospects. He's currently the Mo. 19 ranked middle linebacker in the nation.

"FSU Is getting a smart player that's fast, instinctive and coachable. I am a big play maker for a defense."

Stevenson visited Florida State for the first time back in June. He almost pulled the trigger and made his pledge then.

"I was close to committing when I was there," Stevenson said. "But my family wanted me to wait a few weeks and see if I felt same way. I do and I am excited to have made this decision. I am done and I have no interest in visiting any other schools. I know where I want to go to schools."
