IE Quick Take: Alex Anzalone

Notre Dame added another big piece to their 2013 recruiting class with the verbal pledge of Alex Anzalone at The Opening. recruiting analyst Dave Berk gives his initial take on the newest member of Brian Kelly's recruiting class.

The work of the self-proclaimed "Irish Mob" continued showing its strength on Sunday as four-star linebacker Alex Anzalone did the expected and pledged to Notre Dame.

Here is a quick look at the Wyomissing, Pennsylvania defender.

When watching film of Anzalone you quickly see his willingness to sacrifice his body to make a play. Shows toughness and the ability to support the run or drop back into coverage, Anzalone looks to be a great fit for the Irish as they continue to build one of the best overall recruiting classes in the country.

Having already made a verbal commitment (Ohio State) only to step back and have a change of heart may have some concerned in the months ahead. Several had the Irish in the driver seat over the past few weeks, which should ease concerns that being around other Irish pledges at The Opening was part of the reason he made his pledge.

The last five Irish pledges have been on the defensive side of the football, answering the team's future needs at linebacker with four of the five. What you have to like about Anzalone is his ability to play on both sides of the ball and excel. His future is on defense giving the Irish a player who can play on the outside or inside in the 3-4 scheme. While listed as an outside backer, Anzalone shows above average tackling ability and has the size you look for in a player to man the inside. It will be interesting to see how much growth he has over the next year and once he reaches campus.
