By 8:45 A.M., St. Augustine RB Leonard Fournette had checked in for the third straight day - including 7v7 on Saturday. We were told that Fournette was "unbelievable" yesterday during the "Opportunity Period" -- where top prospects go head-to-head. We were further informed that "none of the linebackers yesterday, including (LSU commit) Melvin Jones, could cover Fournette out of the backfield."
Jones looks very strong in the lower body, but the word was that he was a little disappointing in coverage yesterday. To his defense, Jones was good in pass coverage last year on the field for Washington-Marion.
LSU commit Chuck Baker (Salmen) was already in the house, as was Jeryl Brazil (Loranger). Florida DB Rashard Robinson was also present, and talk continues about Robinson's possible upcoming commitment to LSU.
Jones didn't participate yesterday, we were told, but he looked the part and there was anticipation that he would work-out today.
LSU reportedly extended a preliminary offer to Dylan Moses, the son of Baton Rouge/New Iberia attorney Edwards Moses. Dylan, who is evidently entering the ninth grade at Catholic-Baton Rouge (we'll get the details on him soon), ran a 4.3 at 205 lbs. (and is listed as a RB).
Edna Karr has a 6-4, 225-pound prospect who we'll be gleaning info about, too. This DE impressed the staff working the camp. Early info has him as a '15 prospect.
Rickey Jefferson, LSU's newest commit, was accepting congrats on Twitter late into the night on Sunday evening.
Tevin Horton from John Curtis Christian is, in all likelihood, the best player in the state without a single offer. Horton is at LSU today, and teammate Duke Riley is coming Tuesday or Wednesday (probably Wed.).
On an LSU teame-related note, QB Zach Mettenberger was firing bullets on posts from 65 to 70 yards out last night in the indoor facility after the campers participated in "Tiger Ball" (7v7).
This morning, LSU CB Tyrann Mathieu was working with Corey Webster.
West Saint Mary produced '12 LSU signee Jerald Hawkins, and the Wolfpack have a promising '14 DB (Kylon Brown) at camp. He was first-team all-district as a sophomore.
Westlake '14 TE/WR Jacory Washington is camping for the first day this morning. The 6-5, 220-pounder flew in last night after an AAU hoops tourney in Philadelphia.
