Simmons Planning ND Trip

Mansfield Timberview High (Arlington, Texas) standout Brandon Simmons is already a hot commodity on the recruiting scene. The class of 2014 prospect holds a Notre Dame offer and is planning a visit.

With two commitments in the 2014 class already secured, it is clear the recruiting calendar is sped up greatly.

It is also one of the reasons one of the top safety prospects in Texas has double digit offers and is looking hard at schools already, and Notre Dame is strong in the mix for Mansfield Timberview High (Arlington, Texas) standout Brandon Simmons.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pound Simmons was offered by the Irish a few weeks ago, and he is planning a visit to campus. However, a date for the trip is yet to be determined.

"I know about Notre Dame's tradition," Simmons said. "I know they're a very prestigious school. They have one of the best (graduation) rates but that's really all I know."

The Irish are joined by the likes of Arizona, Arizona State, Boise State, Iowa, LSU, Michigan, Ohio State, UCLA and West Virginia to offer.

"I'm hoping to get there soon," Simmons said. "They came to my school to watch spring ball and offered."

And while Simmons doesn't have deep knowledge of the Irish as a program and what is offered academically, he does follow the team and has a Hollywood background of the school.

"I watched Notre Dame on t.v. a lot, actually," he said. " ‘Rudy' is one of my favorite movies. I follow Notre Dame."

Simmons is already well-versed in the recruiting game because his father, Kashawn Simmons, I the co-founder of New Level Athletics, which runs 7-on-7 camps across the country.

And the mix of academics and athletics is something Simmons wants in a college, and he knows Notre Dame offers it.

"It means a lot," Simmons said. "Obviously, the education is big and means something. That's something to think about because you have to think about life after football. A school has to have what I need academically."
