Bakas: News and Notes around Florida (7/17)

Here are some news and notes on some prospects from around the state of Florida.

* Oshay Carter committed to Georgia State yesterday. At 6-foot-4 and 210 pounds, Carter is a quarterback at Trinity Christian in Jacksonville. He claimed offers from UCF, Rice, FAU, and FIU before pulling the trigger yesterday for GSU.

* Marcus Davis has a few visits on top for later this week. "Wake Forest Friday and West Virginia Saturday," Davis said. At 5-foot-9 and 170 pounds, the American Heritage standout cornerback claims offers from both schools and they're both high on his list.

* 5-star cornerback Vernon Hargreaves has been visiting several schools this week. "I'll be at UGA tomorrow," he said, after seeing Tennessee and Vanderbilt today. He also visited Ohio State and Notre Dame on Monday. Hargreaves, 5-foot-10 and 180 pounds, remains wide open with the recruiting process and hasn't started narrowing down his list quite yet.

* Troy McCollum is at Ole Miss's camp today. At 5-foot-10 and 175 pounds, the North Miami High standout claims an offer from the Rebels and has listed them in his top three for a few months now. FIU and UCF are also seriously in the mix.

* Dante Phillips has left his visit from Tennessee and will head home for a few days before making a final decision. He wrote on Twitter today that his final decision will come down to Tennessee, Miami, and Western Kentucky. At 6-foot-5 and 270 pounds, the 4-star defensive line prospect from Venice signed with Florida back in February but was denied admission into school so he's opened things back up.
