As one of the state's top prospects in the 2015 recruiting class wide reciever Tavin Richardson of Byrnes High School just came back from visiting an ACC power over the weekend. SCPrepNation.com caught up with Richardson to talk about the visit and more.
"It was a great trip up there for my first time visiting them," Richardson said.
The trip to Blacksburg opened his eyes to quite a few things the rising sophomore prospect said.
"I got to see the football athletics center while I was there."
"I also really liked it when I got to go into coach Beamer's office and try on one of their bowl rings."
His visit also saw plenty of interaction with some of the coaches and a player he admires greatly.
"I got a chance to interact with coach Foster, coach Gray, and coach Sherman. I also got a chance to talk with senior wide receiver Marcus Davis while I was there."
Richardson says the Hokies are recruiting as a wide receiver like most schools. Blacksburg isn't the only campus that he's seen this summer though. A SEC school also received a visit from the 6'4 195 pound prospect.
I visited Georgia earlier. I had a great time there. They took me on a tour through the campus and I spent some time with their wide receiver coach Tony Ball. He told he some stuff to become a better player off the field and on the field."
The trip to Blacksburg will most likely be his last visit for the off season according to Richardson.
"No sir, I don't have any other visits lined up. I'm just going to get ready for my sophomore season."
After starting for the high powered Rebels and helping them win another AAAA state championship we asked Richardson what he's been working on this off season to better himself for his sophomore campaign.
"My route running, catching the ball, and getting more explosive off the ball mostly."
With the winning tradition at Byrnes they are aiming to repeat again as state champions on a team level so we asked the 2015 wideout what his personal goals were heading into the season.
"To have 40 or 50 catches, 700-800+ receiving yards, and score 10 or more touchdowns."
Right now Richardson says he's hearing from Georgia, Virginia Tech, Tennessee, Kentucky, Alabama, LSU, Michigan State, Southern Cal, North Carolina, Ohio State, Wake Forest, Purdue, and Florida State. Out of those schools he says that Virginia Tech and Georgia are showing him the most love right now.
"I'm just wide open to everybody right now."
Could an offer be on the horizon?
SCPrepNation.com thinks it's only a matter of time very soon before a school pulls the trigger and becomes the first school to offer him. From there we expect the flood gates to open and Richardson to become a national level prospect if he continues to improve at the rate he has thus far.
