USF among 3 sticking out for OL Ander Bodkin

Ander Bodkin, an emerging offensive line prospect from Marianna, FL, has six offers and a trio of schools sticking out. The 6-foot-5, 275 pound prospect talks about his recent visit to USF, his current leaders, where the Bulls stand, and when he may make his choice.

Marianna's Ander Bodkin is a rising offensive line prospect from the Panhandle. At 6-foot-5, 275-pounds, he's big, athletic, and versatile enough that he played wide receiver and tight end, but playing on the line is where he shines.

"I played guard, but this year I'm mainly at offensive tackle and can play on both sides, and I also play defensive tackle and some tight end," said Bodkin. "My best assets are my size, my technique, and my footwork."

This summer the 6-foot-5, 275 pound lineman has spent most of his time working out and trying to check out a few schools.

"I've been working out, hitting the weight room hard and playing a lot of football," said Bodkin. "I also went down to USF since they offered me and wanted to visit with the coaches, check it out and hang out for a little bit. My summer has been going good."

The Marianna offensive line prospect talked about his trip to Tampa.

"I really loved the camp and had a great time. It was great working with coach Shankweiler and I really liked how he coached me and his style. I got to meet Coach Holtz, and liked him a lot. He's real nice and an awesome guy to talk with. He really knows what he's doing down and I think USF is on the rise."

"I really like it down there, the people are nice, the facilities are great," said Bodkin, "I really enjoyed my visit."

"They told me they really liked me coming down there to work out and were impressed with how I played. They talked to me about the school, and the football team and their plans for the future. They said big things are going to happen and they want me to be a part of it."

This wasn't his first trip to USF as he came down two years ago with when his brother was going through his recruitment.

"It's really beautiful here. The campus is real nice and I loved the feel of it. I was actually at USF two years ago with my brother and when I came back I didn't even recognize it. "Everything is so new and nice and the facilities are just awesome. I think great things are going to happen here."

Bodkin has already forming a relationship with several of the Bulls staff including his recruiting coordinator Rick Smith, Offensive line Coach Steve Shankweiler.

"Coach Smith is great and is really a funny guy to talk with," said Bodkin. He's a really good coach and very likeable guy."

"Coach Shankweiler is a great guy and a great coach. He really show players the right way to do things. If you did something wrong he'll take all the time in the world to teach it to you. He just got a great style of coaching," said Bodkin. "He told me he really likes my form, the effort I put out, and I think he really likes me."

"I really like coach Shankweiler and he's be a big reason f I chose a school like South Florida."

During his visit he got to spend quality time with USF Head Coach Skip Holtz and liked what he had to say.

"Talking with Coach Holtz was great, he said a lot of good things about South Florida, and things are really going to rise for them," said Bodkin.  "He also talked about how they are academically and he had 22 out of 24 seniors graduating with one or two degrees. How they've had a lot of great players come out of USF and he wants me to come to USF and be one of those players."

"Coach Holtz is a great guy, a great coach, and I like the way he runs the team," said Bodkin. "I think they have a great program and as long as he's there, I'll have a really good shot of going there."

Bodkin has six offers from South Florida, Kentucky, FIU, FAU, Tulane, and Jacksonville University. He also claims interest from Georgia, Auburn, Florida, LSU, and FSU. He does have a trio of schools sticking out right now.

"Right now, of the ones that offered, the ones that stick out to me are USF, Kentucky and Jacksonville University, where my brother plays," said Bodkin. "Those are the three schools that I'm focusing on."

As to when he'd like to make his decision of where he'll play, Bodkin said it could be soon or sometime during the season.

"I may decide at the end of this month, beginning of August, or it could be during the football season," said Bodkin. "A lot of things could happen between now and during the season, so I'm waiting it out to make sure I make a good choice."

Bodkin said he did know what factors he's looking at in making his college choice.

"I'm looking at what they offer me education wise, because I want to major in the sports medicine field," said Bodkin. "Since I am going there to play football, I want to see how they treat their players, the coaching staff and how they are with the players, and what they have to offer me overall."

Next on tap Bodkin said he's like to check out a few other schools and has one visit in mind.

"I'm going to try and make it up to Kentucky at the end of July if I can," said Bodkin. "I'd like to see a few more, but that's all I know of for now."
