"Coach [Tony] Ball was on the phone and he told me that Georgia was ready to offer me a scholarship. He let me know there was no way they couldn't after I camped there twice this summer."
Many may think if UGA offered, it would be a slam dunk and Richard would commit to the Dawgs. He is the nephew of legend Herschel Walker and both of his parents ran track at Georgia.
Richard is happy with the offer, but he is not a lock to be a Bulldog.
"The offer from Georgia is a big one just like the other offers I have. It is a top SEC school, they play great football, but I will look to see how I fit in at different schools, and find the right place for me."
The Savannah, Ga. native was on the South Carolina campus when he got the news from UGA and he then got good news from the Gamecocks.
"Steve Spurrier was gone to SEC Media Days, so he wasn't there to see me, but Coach Spurrier, Jr. made the call to offer me. He, Coach Sands, and Coach Ward all were around when they offered me, so I guess it was a group decision."
The 6-foot-3, 220 pound tight end liked what he saw in Columbia.
"I liked the coaches and their mentality while I was working with them. They seem like great guys and the facilities are top notch too. The player's lounge was really nice and I liked that a lot."
"I have not seen enough places yet," said Richard, "I have to get out more and see more schools. I would like to go out to games this fall to see game-day environments at the schools that have offered me. It is just too early for me to name top schools."
