Big Dawg Pledge

Dezmond Harris was one of over 100 hopefuls who attended Mississippi State's Big Dawg camp on Friday evening. After a battery of testing activities, Harris emerged as one of the top preformers at linebacker earning an offer from the Bulldogs. Earlier today, Harris elected to commit to Coach Dan Mullen and his staff.

"I committed to Mississippi State this morning," said Harris. "They offered me and I committed."

Harris' area recruiting coach, Geoff Collins, will also be his position coach when the McAlla, Alabama standout enrolls at Mississippi State.

"I have never played linebacker before," said the 6-3, 212 pounder. "After working with Coach Collins, I feel like I am up for the challenge."

The Bulldogs will graduate just one linebacker in the spring (Cameron Lawrence), so Harris will not be forced into immediate duty upon his arrival to campus.

The chance to stay close to home and compete in one of America's top footbal conferences was simply more than Harris could pass up.

"My family is real excited," said Harris. "I like Mississippi State a lot. It's not too far from home and they are in the SEC.

"I like the campus and all of the coaches. I felt like Mississippi State wanted me the most, so I went ahead and committed."

Harris is the 12th verbal commitment for the 2013 signing class for Mississippi State.

Harris joins fellow Alabama prep stars B.J. Hammond and DeAndre Woods on the Bulldogs' commitment list.
