Wake a finalist for Davis

Wake Forest is one of four finalists for Delray Beach (FL) American Heritage athlete Marcus Davis. The Deacons had earned a spot in Davis' "final four" before this weekend, but a two-day trip to Wake Forest on Friday and Saturday only cemented Jim Grobe's program on his short list.

Vanderbilt, West Virginia and Mississippi State are the three other schools still on Davis' list. "I don't have an order," Davis said. "I just know those four are the four and I'm going to try to get down and see those places. I'll most likely take officials to those."

DeaconSports caught up with Davis while he was leaving the state of North Carolina. He was in the state because he was visiting Wake Forest.

"I liked it. It was a nice environment," he said. "Wake Forest is definitely an environment I could see myself at. Like I said before, I liked it a lot up there.

"I got a chance to speak with Coach Grobe and he left me know they really want me there. He thinks I could be a perfect fit for their program. He thinks I'd be a good player for them and he said he hopes I just make the right decision."

Davis said the Deacs are recruiting him as a defensive back. While he noted that what position he plays won't be a huge factor in his decision, Davis did say, "I'd probably like to play a little bit of offense if that's possible."

He was supposed to visit West Virginia this weekend as well but said he will have to reschedule that trip. After visiting Wake Forest he said he spent some time with family in North Carolina.
