The 6-foot-2, 215-pound outside linebacker prospect has had a chance to visit some of those schools.
"I checked out William & Mary and Hampton this summer," he said. "I still have to go to ODU, Virginia, and Temple."
Three schools have really gotten Smith's attention.
"Marshall, Bucknell, and ODU are standing out," said Smith. "But, I'm not 100 percent sure which school I'm leaning toward right now. I like the coaches at all those schools."
Although those three schools have made an impression on Smith, he is in no hurry to make a decision.
"Once the season starts, I'm probably going to narrow my list of schools down a little bit," he said. "I'm not sure exactly when I will narrow it down. Right now, the five schools would be Marshall, ODU, Duke (Virginia) Tech, and UVA. I'm going to take some visits in December and I'm graduating early – so I'm going to make my decision by then."
Smith's main focus is his senior season at Warwick.
"As far as team goals, I just want us to do the best we can," Smith said. "We want to go above 6-4, which is what we went last season. We also want to have more than a handful of us get offers and elevate our games to the next level. Individually, I want to lead my team and district in tackles. I also want to be defensive player of the year in the district."
Smith bench presses 255 pounds, squats 415, and runs the 40-yard dash in 4.4 seconds. Warwick opens their season at Phoebus on August 31.
