Now is the Time

Jamaal Clayborn planned to make a pre-season decision, so that his recruitment would not prove to be a distraction as Jackson Academy prepares for a potential fourth consecutive state championship season. With two-a-days now in full swing, the three star guard is ready to make the call.

"I am going to announce my decision on Monday at a press conference," said Clayborn. "I am excited about it.

"It's going to be between Mississippi State and Southern Miss."

If Clayborn elected to delay his decision, there could be three hats on the table rather than two.

"Ole Miss told me that I am 95% of the way there to get an offer," said Clayborn. "I don't feel like I need to wait on another school though."

Clayborn has found a lot to like about each of his finalists.

"I really like the direction Southern Miss is trying to take their program," said Clayborn. "I really like Coach (Tucker) Peavey a lot.

"I like how they are trying to bring the Nasty Bunch back to Hattiesburg too.

"You know Mississippi State was my first offer. The school that offers you is going to have a special place in your heart.

"I like Coach (John) Hevesy a lot and I really like the program up there."

While Clayborn will not make an official announcement until noon on Monday, he was willing to offer a hint about which hat he will put on.

"When I decided to make a decision," said Clayborn. "I decided to go with a program that has a history of developing great players.

"I also am going to commit to the school that was my family's favorite of all of the ones we visited."
