"We were walking to the car and I told Coach White I was taking him up on the offer," Porter said. "Then he hugged my mom and me.
"I feel good. It's far from home, but I feel good. My mom likes it at San Diego State. She and Coach White got to know each other during phone conversations leading up to the visit."
White and Porter hit it off from the start.
"He's a nice, funny guy," Porter said of the SDSU coach. "He's mello."
The Aztecs made a distinct impression on Porter this weekend.
"It's nice out here," he said. "The campus is beautiful and the weather is amazing. We're riding around San Diego right now, looking for something to eat. I don't leave town until Sunday.
"The school's facilities are huge. They're beautiful like the rest of the city. Everything out here is beautiful, and the weather makes it even better."
Porter will now help the Aztecs recruit teammate Duke Riley, a three-star linebacker who holds an SDSU offer.
"Duke would fit in well," he said. "San Diego State runs pretty much the exact same defense as John Curtis."
The initial plan calls for Porter to play strong safety in college, although he's versatile enough to switch to running back if needed.
