HFB.com Countdown of TCU Impact Players #2

HornedFrogBlitz.com continues our countdown of TCU impact players for the 2012 season.

TCU 2012 Top Impact Players

With the start of the 2012 season just days away when the Frogs report to camp on August 6th, HFB.com takes a look at the top 11 impact players that are vital to the Frogs success in their inaugural season in the Big 12.

Coming in at the #2 spot is junior defensive end Stansly Maponga, who has 25 career starts and is the leader of the Frogs' defense.

#2 Stansly Maponga

MAPONGA PROFILE
Position: DE
Class: Junior
Ht: 6-2 | Wt: 265
2011 stats: 55 tackles, 9 sacks, 13.5 TFL, 5 FF, 2 FR
Best game of 2011: 9 tackles, 3TFL vs. UNLC
2011 accolades: First-Team Mountain West, Ted Hendricks Award Watch List

What makes Maponga an impact player?
As expected, Maponga has continued the strong tradition of gamebreaking TCU defensive ends earning conference honors in each of the past two seasons. Maponga had a breakout year in 2011 finishing in the top 20 in the country for sacks with 9 (top 6 in TCU single-season history) and top ten in forced fumbles with five. For his career he has a total of six forced fumbles. Last season the Frogs struggled on with a pass rush, with the exception of Maponga. If Ross Forrest or Matt Anderson has a breakout year on the opposite side, look for Maponga's numbers to exceed his total from 2011.
