High School: Chamblee (Georgia)
Ht/Wt: 6'4, 235
Position: Defensive End
Analysis: Southeast Analyst Chad Simmons on Bellamy:
"Bellamy grew up loving basketball and he felt that was his future up until spring of his junior year. He is a very talented athlete and could play rush end or outside linebacker on the next level due to his size, athleticism, and ability. He is still on the lean side and he needs to build onto his frame, and work on his overall technique, but he has a lot of upside. Look for Bellamy to have a big senior season."
On film Bellamy looks like an explosive athlete with the tools to be a double digit sack artist. He is very raw right now in terms of technique, but according to coaches at Chamblee he is a quick learner and he got better in that department every game last year. This is a player that is not afraid to work and the expectations are for him to to be one of the top defensive linemen in Georgia as a senior.
Watching game film the first thing that jumped out to me was his motor. Bellamy will pursue the football all over the field. He will carry around 260 pounds down the road with relative ease.
For FSU: Perhaps the biggest need for FSU this year on the recruiting trail is the Defensive End position. Brandon Jenkins and Cornellius Carradine are seniors and each is expected to line-up on Sundays a year from today. Bjoern Werner is just a junior, but he is draft eligible and there is a very real possibility that he could jump to the NFL as well.
If Werner leaves there is still some quality at the DE position with Giorgio Newberry, Mario Edwards, and Chris Casher, but the depth is severely lacking. Bellamy is the first commitment of what would seem to be at least three DEs in this class.
Final Thoughts: After landing two of the best Defensive End's in the country in 2012, Florida State still had a big need at the DE position. Bellamy lessens the concern considerably going forward and we would look for at least one more high school DE to join him in the class.
If there is another player to watch due to this commitment it is Auburn TE commitment A.J. Jackson. Bellamy and Jackson are quite close and we would look for Jackson to take an official visit to FSU, perhaps the same weekend as Bellamy. At 6'6, 240, Jackson could also play DE.
It is always a good day when the staff lands one of their top targets.
Look for plenty of coverage from Bellamy's announcement later today.
