West Jeff showed promise during the Big Man On Campus 7-on-7 Tournament -- a national qualifying event -- by advancing to the finals and giving all-star squad "Louisiana Bootleggers Elite" all it wanted before coming up just short.
"We've been practicing hard and are staying focused," Devin Scott said. "We will put it on the line in 2012 and hope to take home the title.
"We have to take the season 'part by part.' My personal goal is be one of the best wide receivers in the state. We have three threats in the passing game with Ronald Lewis, Draper Riley (Southern Miss commit) and myself, and we have an up-and-coming receiver in Jermaine Hall (2014)."
West Jeff scrimmages neighborhood rival O.P. Walker tomorrow.
"We plan to go out and have fun and see where we're at," Scott said. "We have Higgins and John Ehret the following week in the jamboree. Archbishop Rummel is a crucial game (week seven). We'll need to play our game, stay focused and keep things up tempo to beat them."
Rummel defeated West Jeff in a 42-34 shootout last year.
Scott and teammate D'Aquin Winthrow, a 6-5, 275-pound offensive lineman, are committed to the Ragin' Cajuns.
"I haven't been talking to the UL coaches much because I've been sleeping whenever we aren't practicing," Scott said. "We've been working hard. Winthrow is a good player that blocks good, and I look forward to being his teammate in college."
