2013 TE Korey Cunningham has received official offers from UAB, Middle Tennessee, South Alabama and Southern Miss, with ACC and SEC offers close behind.
"Last year, because of injuries, I had to move to tackle," Cunningham explained. "I didn't get to play much tight end; so when coaches came to see me, it made it tough to evaluate me."
Cunningham doesn't expect to run into the same problem this fall at Montevallo High School (AL). "I want to have a breakaway season," he said. "We want to win a state championship."
This summer, camp rounds included many in the southeast for Cunningham. "I went to Clemson twice," he said. "I did pretty good there, but I really wanted to focus more on Auburn. I talk to their coaching staff a lot."
Cunningham's interaction with Auburn may lead to an official offer in the coming weeks, if his performance at tight end is up to Tiger standards. "They want to see my first couple of games at tight end," Cunningham said. "Clemson actually wants that, too."
Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss and Tennessee have also reached out to Cunningham, and are met with mutual interest. "Ole Miss is having a senior day and invited me down to that...I've also been in touch with UGA lately. They're trying to get me to visit during the season.
"If I'm not visiting anywhere else, I'd like to be at Auburn, Alabama or Clemson," Cunningham admitted. "I want to get down to Auburn a lot."
The Alabama native also admits that his decision will be made mid-season, if not before. "If the Auburn offer comes, I'll go ahead and commit," Cunningham said. "I also really like Clemson and Ole Miss. And Alabama, the way they run their offense with three tight ends, I could still see playing time with others like O.J. Howard on the field."
Cunningham will begin his senior showing with Montevallo High School on August 31st at Fultondale High School in Birmingham, Alabama.
