Clearly, depth was an issue, and clearly the Herd needed to go out and secure another quarterback who could come in for 2013 and provide not only depth, but quality depth, and push the other three for playing time.
Within the last month the Herd has secured a verbal commitment from a young man in Boca Raton, Florida who should take care of that glaring problem. Kevin Anderson, a senior to be at Boca Raton High School committed to the Herd on July 28th. Recently, I caught up with Mr. Anderson to get his thoughts on the recruiting process and why he chose to come to Huntington, WV to pursue the next step in his football career.
Anderson, who is 6'2" tall and weighs in between 205 and 210 pounds, first was offered by Doc Holliday and staff sometime in the middle of the spring. He stayed in contact with Jajuan Seider, his lead recruiter during the process. He visited the campus, and per his own words, "I loved it." He took a four day trip to the campus with his family. He said, "I had a ton of fun with my family." Prior to his visit he only knew current quarterback, Holcombe, but he said by the time he left campus he know most of the team.
Anderson, with his Marshall offer in hand, was still hearing from two BCS schools, Wisconsin and North Carolina State. Both schools still wanted to evaluate a little more film. Anderson decided not to wait any longer, and to commit to the Herd.
I asked Anderson what caused his initial interest in Marshall. He said simply, "they offered me, that made me very interested." He has enjoyed the recruiting process. He said his favorite part was getting to go to all of the new places, and see new things.
Anderson expects a good senior season. His high school team should be very competitive in both their district and in their region.
Anderson spearheads a very balanced attack. "We are very balanced, but we spread it out a lot."
When asked if he was firm in his commitment to Marshall, he said simply, "yes."
