Glenbard West commanded the clock and the game from the start. WWS came out with a lot of intensity, but Glenbard West buckled down and made a couple big plays early to get the upper hand.
Play of The Game:
Early in the first quarter, Glenbard West Tight End and Vanderbilt commit Nathan Marcus made a highlight reel leaping catch at the WWS 5-yard line using every bit of his 6'-6" frame to haul it in. It set up an easy score for his team on the following play.
All Glenbard, All Day:
Glenbard West would score 21 unanswered points in the first half before Wheaton Warrenville South got on the board. They squeaked a touchdown in right before halftime, thanks in part to a roughing the punter penalty that extended the drive.
West went on to score one more time in the second half, all while keeping the Wheaton Warrenville South offense at bay. It was a rough day passing for Wheaton Warrenville South. Quarterback Ryan Graham was forced out of the pocket a lot and never seemed like he was able to get his feet set and make the throws he needed to make.
But a big reason for that was the Glenbard West defense. The defense, despite losing one of its starting linebackers on the first drive, had their way with Wheaton Warrenville South most of the game.
In the end, Glenbard West came away with the 28-7 win, but the final score is a lot closer than the game itself was. Two Glenbard West Hilltoppers share Player Of The Game honors on this one.
TE/DE - Nathan Marcus
Marcus played on both sides of the ball for Glenbard West, and he didn't skip a beat all game. Whether he was making acrobatic catches or sacking the quarterback (which he did 3 times), Marcus was always around the football one way or another.
DE - Ruben Dunbar
Dunbar was a load for the Wheaton Warrenville South offensive line all day. He spent most of the afternoon being double-teamed, which freed his teammates up to make plays, but even then, he recorded 3 of Glenbard West's 6 sacks. He's much stronger than he was last year, which was really apparent all game.
