Gates Off to a Strong Start

There may not be a high school wide receiver in North Carolina off to a better start than Evan Gates. The Davidson Day School (Davidson, N.C.) senior has taken his game to a new level this season.

Evan Gates is off to a fast start. In his first three games, Gates has 32 catches for 467 yards and three touchdowns. Gates already has three scholarship offers and other schools are showing interest.

"I have offers from East Carolina, Appalachian State, and UNC-Charlotte," he said. "I'm also hearing from UNC a good bit, Georgia Tech, and N.C. State. Appalachian State is recruiting me the hardest."

Gates is looking forward to taking some college visits.

"I haven't set up any official visits, just some unofficial visits for games," Gates said. "I plan on going to games at East Carolina, UNC, N.C. State, and Appalachian State."

Despite the attention from several schools, Gates claims no favorites.

"I don't have a leader – I'm still really wide open," he said. "I just want to get a better feel for everything – and see what other offers come in towards the end of the season – or after the season."

The Davidson Day playmaker has an idea of when he would like to narrow his list of schools.

"Right after football season (I will narrow my list down) – I just want to stay focused on the season," said Gates. "I'm not really worried about recruiting at all. But right after football season, I'm going to start narrowing down my list, probably to two or three schools. I would like to make a decision before January."

Davidson Day hosts Georgia's Rabun Gap-Nacoochee High School tomorrow night.
