Florida DE staying focused

Malik Brown is a standout defensive end prospect from Dwyer High and Scout caught up with him to discuss the latest.

Malik Brown is off to a strong start to his senior season.

"It's going good," Brown said. "I had three sacks against Glades Central."

Brown, 6-foot-3 and 215 pounds, has offers from schools like Cincinnati, Illinois, Kentucky, Minnesota, Mississippi State, Purdue, USF, and Syracuse. He was asked if any of those schools have called him this week.

"Mississippi State called (last night)," he said. "They were just asking me how everything was going and that they were thinking about me. It's a great program."

As of now, Brown is trying to remain focused on his senior season instead of the recruiting process.

"It's Dwyer, Dwyer, Dwyer, Dwyer," he said. "It's kinda hard for me to think about what college I want to attend when haven't even reached my high school goal yet and that's a state championship."

Brown, who finished last season with 11 sacks, says "graduation rates" will be the most important thing he looks for in a school.

As a Prospect: A transfer from Palm Beach Gardens High before last season, Brown made a big impact at Dwyer in 2011. He developed into one of the area's top pass rushers. He's very quick off the edge and has enough speed and athleticism to play in space. He projects as a pass rushing defensive end at the college level.
