A Little Quinton Powell Update

Florida linebacker commitment Quinton Powell and his team had a rough night Friday as Mainland (Daytona, FL) fell to Jones (Orlando, FL) 40-8. Powell is one of few veterans on a very young Mainland team, and while it's frustrating for him to lose games that way, he continues to step up as a vocal leader for his team.

Throughout the game, Quinton Powell was constantly talking to his teammates and trying to get them going.

"We just came out here complacent. We weren't ready. We have a group of young guys," Powell said.

"One person can't do it. It hurts because it's my senior year."

Powell admits losing that badly was frustrating, but he sees an opportunity this season to grow in new ways as a player.

"I'm working on my leadership. When times are down, I need to learn how to bring the guys back up," he said.

The Florida commit was in Gainesville earlier this month to check out his future team in their season-opener against Bowling Green.

"I thought that they did okay, I just wish that they killed them basically. It was Bowling Green, I thought that they should have whooped them," Powell said.

"I felt that they could have gotten to the quarterback a little more, I didn't really see them attack the quarterback that much, but overall they did pretty good."

Powell will be back in Gainesville to see Florida take on Kentucky on September 22nd.
