Scout Out West: Jefferson vs. Gardena

Scout takes a look at the top prospects from the Jefferson-Gardena game, including San Diego State commit Marcus Stamps...

Game Scouted:
Gardena (Calif.) vs. Los Angeles (Calif.) Jefferson

Scout Out West
Marcus Stamps – 6-0/200 - S/RB – Los Angeles (Calif.) Jefferson - 2013
Recruiting: Committed to San Diego State
Scouting Report: The verbal to the Aztecs, played on both sides of the ball for the Democrats.  While he had a couple of touchdown runs, he doesn't have great speed.  Good speed yes, but not great speed.  He is a physical between the tackles runner, and does a good job of keeping his legs moving, but got caught from behind a couple of times.  Defensively, he's a very good tackler, once he had a player in his hands, the play was over.  He does a good job of filling the gaps and stopping the run and was solid in space.  He looks like he'll end up being an OLB at the next level.
Marquis Longmire– 6-3/195 – OLB – Los Angeles (Calif.) Jefferson - 2014
Recruiting: Interest in several Western schools.
Scouting Report: Longmire was probably the most physically impressive player in the game.  He's long and well put-together, and looks like a natural outside linebacker, and potentially an inside receiver in college.  He's quick and agile, with good hands as a receiver, though his route-running left something to be desired.  He looked more natural at linebacker, and really did well in pass coverage, able to cover a lot of field.
Tyree Simmons – 5-10/175 – ATH – Gardena (Calif.) - 2013
Recruiting: Interest in several Western schools.
Scouting Report: Simmons isn't real big as a running back, but looks like he could be a slot in college, and used on fly sweeps and as a return man.  He's got a lot of wiggle, and was excellent in the open field, showing some good moves, and did a good job of getting separation.  For his size, he's pretty physical, more than able to take a hit, and he's got very good vision.
Cameron Burton – 6-3/210 – OLB – Gardena (Calif.) - 2013
Recruiting: Interest in several Western schools.
Scouting Report: Burton is an intriguing prospect, with really good size, and he could play either of the linebacker spots.  He's a bigtime hitter, and had a couple of hits where he tattooed the ball-carrier perfectly and legally.  He's got good, active hands, and had a couple of nice breakups.  It sounds like he's got some work to do academically, which has slowed his recruitment down, but physically, he looks the part.
