Kellen Freeman-Davis is one of the state of Michigan's most intriguing prospects. Blessed with great athleticism, he has the potential to be a big time college tight end. He was seen primarily as a basketball player by many before this summer. However, after turning in impressive camp performances in Ann Arbor, South Bend, and East Lansing that perception is drastically shifting. GBW caught up with Kellen recently to get the latest on his recruitment.
What were your Michigan camp stats?
"I ran a 4.69 forty and I had about a 30 inch vertical."
The last time we talked, (Jun 17 Update) you indicated that you hadn't received an official offer. Has that changed?
"No, they still haven't offered me. Coach Carr told me that they liked me and that they wanted me to come there. He also said that they'd be checking out my games this year. But in terms of an official offer…. I haven't received one yet."
Has Michigan been in contact with you since the camp?
"Yes, I've talked to Coach Malone."
What camps have you been to?
"I've camped at both Michigan State and Notre Dame. They both went pretty well."
Did those schools offer?
"Yes they did."
Can you list all of your offers for me
"I've been offered by Michigan State, Northwestern, Notre Dame, Akron, and Toledo."
Who would you say is recruiting you the hardest at this point?
"I'd have to say Michigan State."
Are they your leader?
"No, I don't really have a leader at this point. I just have a top five of Michigan, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Miami, and Oregon (in no particular order)."
Did you grow up a fan of a particular school?
"Well, I grew up liking Michigan. I also grew up liking Michigan State because my brother went there."
Will the fact that your brother attended MSU have any effect on your decision?
"Not at all."
When you sit down to make your choice, what will be the most significant factors in your decision?
"Basically it will come down to how I will fit into the offense. Will I get a chance to catch a lot of passes? Will I get a chance to start? I'll also be looking at my relationship with the coach. Outside of football I'm going to be looking for very strong academics."
Out of the coaches you've met so far, did any of them make an impression that made them stick out more than the others?
"Yes. I was very impressed by Tyrone Willingham. He a great guy and a great coach."
I understand that you're an accomplished basketball player as well. Will you be looking to play hoops in college?
"No. I'm going to totally concentrate on football."
Do you have a decision timetable?
"I'm going to wait until signing day to decide."
We'll continue to keep tabs on Kellen's recruitment in the coming weeks/months.
