Scouting Report

Da'Shawn Hand is one of the most physically impressive junior prospects that I have ever seen. Since last season, Hand has added 20 pounds of muscle to his frame. He looks like he should be junior in college, not high school.

Hand is one of those rare prospects who have the total package. While most colleges like him at defensive end, I have no doubt that he could easily slide down and play defensive tackle. Regardless, his skill-set will allow him to excel at either position.

Along with his physical abilities, Hand is also a very smart football player, with a strong work ethic. Although he often completely overwhelms offensive lineman at the high school level, he does a nice job of playing under control. Against Granby, the future five-star prospect showed the ability to diagnose plays quickly, and was very good against both the run and pass.

While there is no doubt he is one of the premier prospects in the country, regardless of class, he is just scratching the service of how good he can become. He is extremely raw, but once he develops some moves, there is really no ceiling for him. Hand does play too high at times, so he can improve on his pad level – but much of that is due to the fact that he has to take on two and three blockers on every snap. The bottom line is that he has the potential to be superstar at the college and NFL level.
