Charlotte running back Clyde Newton was the Tarpons workhorse as Punta Gorda Charlotte beat Venice. He rushed the ball 27 times for 181 yards, scoring twice including the game winner on fourth and goal with his team trailing by four with 10 seconds remaining in the game. Newton has good size (6-1/205) and is at his best between the tackles. He's a strong north-south runner who shows the ability to break tackles. This kid does a nice job of running at a good pad level, keeping his shoulders square to the line of scrimmage and keeping his legs moving. On this night Newton had a lot of yards after contact.
He's not a blazer and a guy that's going to run away from the defense.
Newton has an Indiana scholarship offer.
Below are highlights of Newton on both sides of the ball against Venice on Friday.
