Scout's Take: Kani Benoit

Phoenix running back has all of the tools of a division-one back

Name: Kani Benoit
School: Phoenix (Az.) Thunderbird
Position: RB
Size: 6-0 200
Recruiting: Offers from Wyoming, New Mexico State, Idaho, North Dakota and South Dakota State
Stats: Has rushed for 889 yards and 16 TDs for the 3-2 Chiefs

Game: 54-37 win over Phoenix Greenway on 9/20
Game Stats: Rushed for 220 yards and 4 TDs as well as returned 2 KOs for scores

I have been a big fan of Benoit long before he went off in this game. Benoit is a big back with plenty of speed. At 6-0 200, he has the size to pound it between the tackles and he has documented track times of sub-11 seconds in the 100 meters, so the speed is there as well.

Benoit has good vision, doesn't dance; is a one cut kind of back, and while he has not caught a pass this year, he has shown good hands in the past. Benoit is an every down back at the next level.

Two areas Benoit needs to work on. One, in this game he lost two fumbles, that is five so far this year. Two, like most high school backs, he needs to work on his pass protection.

Bottomline, Benoit is better then the five offers he has and there is no doubt in my mind, he will get more mid-major to lower tier BCS offers as his senior season progresses.
