For Clyde Newton it was just another Friday night. He helped his Tarpon teammate to a victory, scoring the game winning touchdown with ten seconds remaining in the fourth quarter as Punta Gorda Charlotte beat rival Venice. Newton finished the game with 27 carries for 181 yards and a pair of scores.
"That's how it pretty much easy every Friday night," Newton said. "I really didn't do anything special. I just ran hard. The offensive line did a great job of opening up some holes and they were getting that big push for me."
Newton stars on both sides of the ball for the Tarpons. At 6-foot-1 and 205-pounds, he has ideal size at linebacker and running back. He made have made more splash plays running the ball but he did cause a big fumble late in the game to give Charlotte the ball on their game winning drive.
"Actually, most schools like me at linebacker," Newton said. "It doesn't matter to me. "So far Indiana has offered and I will likely visit them for the Ohio State (October 13th) game. I am also hearing from teams like South Florida, Miami, and Iowa State."
