West Monroe set at QB for years

West Monroe has been the most dominant Class 5A program in Louisiana since the LHSAA expanded from four to five classes, and the Rebels should continue their ways in the future with QBs such as Jon Randall Belton (2016) and Slade Bolden (2018) in line for their chance to shine.

Jon Randall Belton is already in the 6-2 range, and the dual-threat freshman is making plays for West Monroe's varsity when he gets into the game.

Belton is also "tearing it up on the freshman team with multiple touchdowns in every game," a West Monroe insider said.

Two weeks ago, Belton tossed a perfect pass for a touchdown in the varsity's victory over Madison (Miss.) Central. He rolled out and connected with his target from "35 to 40 yards out on a fade" as the Rebels prevailed, 56-28.

The future is very bright beyond Belton, too.

West Monroe has three junior high school feeder programs, including West Ridge Middle. West Ridge is home to 2018 (seventh grade) QB Slade Bolden, who has the Patriots perfect entering this week's contest vs. Carroll.

Bolden has rushed for 552 yards on 49 carries with seven touchdowns. His team relies on a run-first mentality, but Bolden has been accurate and effective when the Patriots throw the football.

He has completed 13-of-19 attempts for 197 yards and six TDs.

Bolden has a 170-pound bench and 265-pound squat, and is currently in the 5-6, 145-pound range. He hopes to stay at quarterback in college, and LSU is the only school that's of interest at the moment.

He's also a college baseball prospect who competes on the USSSA Majors travel team "Louisiana Thunder." A catcher/pitcher, Bolden's fastball has been clocked at 74 mph from regulation mound (MLB/NCAA distance).

"Slade is a 'yes, sir and no, sir' kid and it's a pleasure to coach him," West Ridge offensive coach Kenny King said.

Bolden is an ideal student (4.0 GPA).

"I try to do as well as I can at school," he said. "My top strength on the field is running the football."
