Louisiana Team Rankings

John Curtis Christian is ranked No. 2 in the nation and No. 1 in Louisiana Class 2A. Junior LB Kenny Young will be a four-star prospect when early 2014 rankings are posted, National Recruiting Analyst Chad Simmons said this week...

(last week's ranking indicated in parentheses)

  • Class 5A

    1. BARBE (2) - (4-0) Last week, the Buccaneers defeated Comeaux, 42-0. Are Courtney Galentine and company on upset alert this week vs. red-hot QB Brandon Bergeron and St. Thomas More? Last year Barbe WR Trey Quinn had well over 300 yards receiving against STM.

    2. ARCHBISHOP RUMMEL (3) - (3-0) Last week, the Raiders defeated Denham Springs, 14-3. QB Damian Williams is the consummate field general. He's built more like a fullback than a quarterback, but there's not much debate about Williams being the state's top senior signal-caller.

    3. WEST MONROE (4) - (3-1) Last week, the Rebels defeated 4A Bastrop, 20-14. Head coach Don Shows has 137 players listed on the roster. Only loss was to 2A Calvary Baptist.

    4. ST. PAUL'S (5) - (2-2) Last week, the Wolves defeated city rival Covington, 27-23. Another tough district game on tap this week vs. Mandeville, which reached the 2011 semis.

    5. NEW IBERIA SENIOR HIGH (6) - (3-1) Junior Daniel Lewis ran for two touchdowns in easy win over Thibodeaux last week. Tonight the Yellow Jackets look for revenge against city rival Westgate, which easily won this matchup in 2011. Lewis (left) and senior LB Dre Fusilier are pictured below.

    6. DESTREHAN (NR) - (2-1) Four-star LSU commit Rickey Jefferson and the Wildcats toppled then No. 1 West Jeff last week, 22-12. Destrehan climbs back into rankings at same spot they occupied in the preseason. Dangerous Dutchtown team up next...

    7. WEST JEFFERSON (1) - (2-1) Buccaneers seek to bounce back vs. Hammond. District begins in two weeks with back-to-back contests vs. Brother Martin and Rummel.

    8. AIRLINE (8) - (4-0) Head coach Bo Meeks has Vikings rolling. Bossier City club hanging nearly 40 points per game on scoreboard.

    9. ST. AMANT (9) - (4-0) Gators averaging just under 50 points per game but are widely considered the underdog this week vs. Central.

    10. CENTRAL (NR) - (4-0) Made history in 2011 as first 5A No. 32 seed to upset No. 1 (St. Paul's) in playoffs.

    10. PARKWAY (NR) - (4-0) DT Antonio McGhee, a Tulane commit, spearheads defense that is allowing only seven ppg.

    1. EDNA KARR (1) - (3-0) Four-star CB Noel Ellis and Cougars blanked Salmen (20-0) last Friday.

    2. NEVILLE (2) - (4-0) Defending state champs take on Airline this week. QB John Diarse, a four-star LSU commit, had a huge game vs. Airline last year.

    3. LUTCHER (3) - (3-0) It may be early to say this, but the Bulldogs are looking good to run the table during the regular season. St. Michael and Plaquemine have the best chance for an upset.

    4. TEURLINGS CATHOLIC (6) - (4-0) QB Conner Cronin is your statewide Player of the Week after a stellar outing vs. Calvary Baptist. Cronin's stats: 22-of-27 for 281 yards, four TDs as Rebels erased halftime deficit to win going away, 52-28.

    5. O. PERRY WALKER (5) - (3-0) Tulane commits Corey Smith (DE) and Lyn Clark (OLB) host West Saint John and Tulane commit Eric Bell (DE) this week.

    6. ST. AUGUSTINE (7) - (3-1) Leonard Fournette, Purple Knights downed 5A Hahnville last week.

    7. SALMEN (4) - (2-1) Defense getting tested by excellent QBs. Last week the Spartans faced Devante Noil (Karr); this week it's four-star Kendell Beckwith, the state's top-ranked senior prospect.

    8. ST. MICHAEL (9) - (4-0) South Baton Rouge program formerly known as Bishop Sullivan is in a golden era of sorts on the gridiron. School has been known much more for its prowess in baseball

    9. EAST JEFFERSON (NR) - (4-0) Watch out for RB Ronald Green.

    10. ST. MARTINVILLE (NR) - (3-1) Won three in a row after loss to 5A NISH. WR Kendall Wiltz pictured below.
