Scouting: UF 4-star LB commitment

Quinton Powell is a 4-star linebacker prospect from Mainland High in Daytona Beach. Scout's Mike Bakas had this to say after watching the future Gator on Friday night...

There wasn't a more athletic player on the field in this game than Quinton Powell. Lining up as a defensive end with his hand on the ground most of the time, Powell made some very athletic plays. With one of his tackles behind the line of scrimmage, he brought down Moore in the open field. He also had two sacks in the game, which were athletic plays and not just coverage type sacks.

At 6-foot-2 and 200 pounds, he lacks ideal size and strength (he isn't nearly as effective when teams run right at him) to stay at DE in college but he looks to have the necessary athletic ability to be an outside linebacker. He has long arms, good straight ahead speed, and shows the ability to change directions. The only question mark that you couldn't see in this game is how good he'll be able to diagnose plays in front of him as a linebacker.

All the physical tools appear to be there with the possible exception of being a bit light and not really having a huge frame to add a lot more. The 4-star is firmly committed to Florida and seems to have a bright future ahead of him at the college level.
