Mountlake Terrace (Wash.) 2014 running back Devante Downs has been anxiously waiting for his first offer, it came Monday night.

"I was talking to coach Thomas, then he put coach Sark on the phone and he offered me," said Downs. "It feels amazing, now I just have to go play well and not disappoint on the field."

While the 6'3' 215lbs athlete is being recruited by some schools at linebacker, most like him in a big running back or fullback role.

"They want me for offense," said Downs. "Which is what I prefer."

So was there any temptation to commit right away?

"Of course I was tempted, I have wanted to go there since my freshman year after the Rising Stars camp," said Downs. "My dad wants me to wait to make a commitment and see all my other options."

Only a junior, Downs hadn't started feeling pressure for that first offer but was starting to wonder how long it would take.

"Not really pressure," said Downs. "Frustration with myself about not getting offered yet."

In addition to Washington, Downs is hearing from a long list of Pac-12 and BCS programs.

"I am hearing from a couple other schools," said Downs. "I am getting letters and stuff from Washington State, Michigan, Oregon, Oregon State, Boise State, Utah and a couple more I can't remember."
