Plenty of Interest in Mixon

The Oakley (Calif.) Freedom 2014 running back, Joe Mixon, could be the Golden State's top back in his class...

Oakley (Calif.) Freedom 2014 running back Joe Mixon (6-2, 200), is having a fine start to his junior season, and the Scout 300 back, who's one of the top prospects at his position in the West, is anxious to see if it materializes into more offers.

"This season has been going great," said Mixon. "Every game, I'm trying to make a statement, every time I touch the ball."

Playing with four-star receiver Darrell Daniels, a Washington commit, has allowed Mixon to capitalize on teams trying to stop Daniels.

"It's a good idea," Mixon said with a laugh. "For me, if I'm running the ball, he's open, so then when they guard him, I'm running the ball. They should keep guarding him."

Mixon has an offer from Oregon State, which came in July, but a slew of other schools are showing interest.

"Colorado said they will probably be offering me soon and Washington is really close," said Mixon. "And I've been talking to Cal and UCLA and they're recruiting me too really heavily. I'm also interested in Alabama, and maybe a little bit more from Michigan and Miami. Oklahoma, I would love for them to recruit me because Adrian Peterson is my favorite running back."

Mixon said Oregon State is in contact with him regularly, since they offered.

"I talk to Coach (Brent) Brennan and I talked to Coach (Mike) Riley when they offered me,' said Mixon. "I was hyped up when they offered. It was a big relief and really exciting."

Mixon camped at the Oakland NFTC and is planning to attend the U.S. Army Combine, where Daniels really burst onto the scene.

In fact, he's hoping to make a decision next spring's NFTC.

"I want to commit in the spring, maybe around the Nike Camp," said Mixon. "But I still want to do the process and take my visits."

Mixon has run for 891 yards and 11 touchdowns and caught 13 passes for 181 yards and four touchdowns in seven games this fall.

Academically, Mixon has a 3.2 and will take the SAT in the spring.
