James Talks Recent Visits

Ohio linebacker Davonte James talks about his recent visit to Ohio State and the other programs showing him early interest.

Over the course of his high school career Springfield (Ohio) linebacker Davonte James has allowed his play on the field to do his talking. However, with several college programs showing early interest in the 6-foot-2, 220-pound middle linebacker, he's learned to navigate the off-field attention.

This past weekend James visited Ohio State and enjoyed his time with the Buckeyes.

"The trip was good," said James. "We got our passes and then sat in this room until one of the coaches came and got us to go down to the locker room. We talked with some of the coaches and players before going out to the field during warm-ups.

"After watching the game we went back into the locker room to see what the players do after the game."

One thing James shared about the Buckeyes was the early relationship he's building with his main recruiter.

"My main recruiter is coach (Zach) Smith," said James. "I've got a good relationship with him."

While some have reported James holding an offer from Georgia Tech, he assures no offer has been made.

"Georgia Tech said they wanted to see a couple of my games before offering me," said James. "I'm hearing from a lot of schools including Ohio State, Alabama, Iowa, Illinois, Michigan State, Florida State and many others."

What would an offer from the home state Buckeyes mean to James?

"If I earned an offer from Ohio State that would mean a lot," said James. "They are close to home and that would be exciting."

While uncertain of any other visits he'll take going forward, James has a couple in mind.

"I'm not sure where else I'm going to visit," said James. "I might go back down to Louisville as they were my first visit. It was really nice down there and everybody was real friendly and I felt it was a good atmosphere.

"I might also try and visit Michigan but I don't know a lot about them but want to learn
