Three stand out for Moffitt

Concord (Calif.) De La Salle linebacker D.J. Moffitt is a very talented player who has been overshadowed the past two years by a few more highly publicized teammates.

He may not get the national run as some of his teammates, but make no mistake, Spartan linebacker D.J. Moffitt is a very good looking player. DLS defensive coordinator Terry Eidson called Moffitt the best defensive player on his team earlier in the season and national analyst Brandon Huffman raved about him after seeing the ‘backer in action last weekend.

"Moffitt probably had the best game of anyone from De La Salle when they played Pleasanton (Calif.) Foothill, with a takeaway, double-digit tackles and several big hits that broke up passes," Huffman said. "He moves really well laterally and plays good in space, but is just as adept in stuffing the run, which he did on the few occasions that Foothill tried to run."

Moffitt is currently rated with the safeties but is being recruited as a linebacker and has the frame to easily bulk up and excel at that position in college.

"The main schools talking to me right now are Colorado, Arizona and Nevada," Moffitt said. "I'm hearing a little from Oregon too but not as much as those other three and they haven't offered yet. I want to take trips to all three of those schools that have offered but that will be after the season.

"Right now, all my focus is on winning a state title. I've said that from day one, during the season, I really want to focus on my team and helping us to win that title. Once the season is over, I'll turn my attention to recruiting and doing visits but right now, I'm not giving it a lot of thought."
