Newby excited by local offer

West Hills (Calif.) Chaminade running back Terrell Newby has been as impressive as any back in the West this year. Despite the athlete showing he's one of the state's top prospects, he had yet to land an offer from one of the two local schools close to home but that changed on Thursday.

Terrell Newby had a night to remember last weekend when he rushed for 360 yards and eight touchdowns on just 16 carries. Only one of his carries came in the second half, a dazzling 79 yard touchdown run.

On the recruiting front, Newby has already taken an official visit to Nebraska and was beginning to narrow his list. You can now add another school to the mix.

"UCLA offered me today," Newby said. "I had people coming up to me and telling me about it before I even knew for sure. I definitely have a lot of interest in UCLA. They had been recruiting me lately and I was hoping for an offer and it definitely feels good to have a local option.

"I love L.A. and I know my mom would love for me to stay close to home but I can't let that affect my decision. I'm still open to the other schools on my list and I plan to take my official visits before I commit anywhere."

Newby hasn't set any other visits but said he's close on a few more.

"Oregon and Washington will most likely be the next ones I set," Newby said. "I'm looking at California too. Those three schools along with Nebraska and UCLA are the main ones I'm focusing on and I want to take all my trips before I'm ready to make my decision."
