Hoosier get a steal

Indiana gains a commitment from running back Clyde Newton from southwest Florida.

Follow JamieNewberg on Twitter Indiana came south and landed a commitment last week from one of the most underrated players in the Sunshine State in running back Clyde Newton.

"I talked with the head coach [Kevin Wilson] on Wednesday night and committed," Newton said. "I just love the situation up there and I believe I can go to Indiana and make a difference. I had a great official visit a few weeks ago and it just seems like the right fit for me."

Newton, 6-foot-1 and 205-pounds, made his official visit to Bloomington when the Hoosiers hosted Ohio State (10-13).

Newton has had a big senior season. He has rushed for 1,530 yards and 17 touchdowns (9.7 yards/carry) including 215 yards on 30 attempts against a very good South Fort Myers team.

"I am the type of back that gets stronger and stronger as the game goes on," Newton said. "The more touches I get the better I am. I like being that workhorse."

Newton runs with power and quickness. This is one cut runner that has deceptive speed. Newton has balance and a terrific spin move. On Friday, he was like the Energizer bunny, who keeps going and going and going.
