Minnesota dipped into the Sunshine State today and landed defensive back Nate Godwin (Tampa Freedom). Godwin, 5-foot-11 and 190-pounds, made an official visit to see the Gophers last weekend and what he saw was enough.
"It was a great visit," Godwin said. "I loved everything I saw last weekend. The coaches are great and I love the direction the program is headed. I love the facilities. Practically everything is brand new. It's just a cool place."
It's a cool place literally for Godwin, especially considering he's from the state of Florida. But the colder weather won't bother him.
"The way I look at it is that it will be very nice in the spring, summer and fall," Godwin said. "I will get used to the winters and the cold."
It looks as if he will play safety for Minnesota and Godwin knows that playing time is there for the taking if he can come in and do all the little things.
"They will have two senior safeties leaving and then a sophomore and junior," Godwin said. "But I also realize that there will always be competition. There is competition at every position at every school. That's just the way it is. I just want to go in there and compete for time. I will do anything I can to help the team."
Godwin, a three-star recruit, committed to Minnesota over USF and West Virginia. He made his commitment by releasing a statement on Twitter.
