Missouri Picks Up Major 2014 Commitment

The Missouri Tigers are all over the recruiting trail to try and lock down the remaining few pieces of their 2013 football recruiting class, but tonight they have landed a major in-state talent for 2014.

While the Missouri Tigers are in the midst of trying to close out their 2013 football recruiting class by trying to get the best players available out there still to come to Mizzou, they have picked up a 2014 commitment from one of the elite players in the class of 2014 tonight.

2014 St. Louis (MO) Vianney RB Markel Smith 5'11" 210. 4.5 forty time has told ShowMeMizzou.com that he has committed to the Tigers tonight.

"I committed to Missouri just a little while ago," said Smith."I have been thinking about it for awhile now and just felt like I didn't need to wait. So, I called Coach Ford and gave him the news that I was a Tiger..........to which he was very excited to hear the news."

Markel said it was an easy choice for him and one that he has known he was going to make for a long time.

I have love Mizzou my whole life and thought about playing there for ever. Playing video games or watching them it was something I always thought about wanting to do someday. Play for Missouri. So, now that I have been up there a lot lately attending games and seeing things and getting to know the coaches, I really knew it was the place for me. It's like family. Everything just feels right and I am really comfortable there. I just like this is where I am suppose to be,"said Smith.

I asked Markel, who just finished his junior season last night with 2,523 yards and 30 TDs overall in a loss to Jackson (MO) how he saw himself fitting into Missouri's offense?

"I think it will be a real easy transition for me coming from my school where we have played the spread along with the I formation. I know in the SEC they are mixing up the run game and playing the spread, two backs and even some I. I'll be ready for whatever they want me to do."

Smith also said they he is friends with some current Missouri commitments along with another 2014 offer that he hopes plays with him as a Tiger

"I know Chase Abbington and Aarion Penton real well, plus I am really good friends with Raymond Wingo, who just got a Missouri offer. It will be exciting to play with Chase, I know he is a great player, and hopefully Raymond as well."

Markel Smith becomes the Tigers second known commitment for 2014 along with DeSmet OG Andy Bauer
