Florida RB solid with UK

Khalid Thomas says he's happy with choice of Kentucky regardless of coaching situation. Part of that is due to his brother, UK linebacker Kadeem "Pancho" Thomas, being happy in Lexington.

Three-star Tallahassee (Fla.) Godby all-purpose back Khalid Thomas says he was disappointed to hear the news Sunday that Joker Phillips was being dismissed as head coach at Kentucky.

But that wasn't enough to make him waver in the decision that originally led him to UK.

"I'm still committed to them," Thomas said Sunday night. "I feel bad for coach Phillips. He seemed like a good coach to me, and from what I hear, I think he could have turned things around if they gave him enough time to get another good recruiting class in there, but it hasn't changed my mind about the school.

"I like the school, my brother's up there, and he's real happy with his situation. That's where I want to be."

Thomas' brother, Kadeem "Pancho" Thomas, is a freshman linebacker for the Wildcats.

"I talked to him a little bit today," Khalid said. "He's still happy there. He says it's a real good family atmosphere and that they'll get through it."

Thomas (5-9, 170) picked the Cats over programs like Georgia Tech, Maryland, N.C. State, South Florida, Notre Dame and Miami. He has helped lead Godby to an 8-1 record this season with one regular season game remaining. Two weeks ago, he had a 150-yard rushing effort with two touchdown runs and a touchdown catch.
