Wicks has huge game in playoff opener

Long Beach Poly (Calif.) running back Gerard Wicks had a monster game Friday night for the Jackrabbits and Washington State may have a fight on their hands to keep the talented athlete.

Gerard Wicks is a dynamic athlete and was easily the best player on the field when Poly took down La Puente (Calif.) Bishop Amat in the Pac 5 1st round playoff game. Wicks rushed for 223 yards and two touchdowns on just 17 carries and scored on runs of 64 and 75 yards.

Wicks is a true home run threat that is not just fast, he's very quick hitting the hole and hits top speed after just a few strides. Wicks showed plenty of wiggle as well and doesn't shy away from contact. He runs hard and decisive and definitely looks like one of the most underrated prospects out west this year.

On the recruiting front, Wicks gave an early commitment to Washington State and is currently visiting Pullman for an official visit.

"I'll be there Saturday- Monday," Wicks said following the game Friday night. "I'm looking forward to getting out to Washington State and I like them a lot. They've had a rough season but it's still a good school and they have been recruiting me hard from the beginning so that means a lot."

Wicks said a few other Pac 12 schools are recruiting him hard and he has another visit scheduled for later in the month.

"I'm going to visit Boise State later this month but I don't remember the exact date," Wicks said. "They offered me back in September and that's a big time program for sure. I want to take a few other trips for sure but Boise State is the only one locked in right now.

"Washington and UCLA are starting to recruit me too. I think Washington could offer soon, they seem really interested. UCLA is showing some interest and hopefully they get more serious. They have had a real good season and it would be nice to have an offer from one of the local schools."
