2013 defensive lineman Ruben Dunbar of Glenbard West in Glen Ellyn, Ill., has had an eventful senior season, and after an outstanding defensive effort -- helped lead the Hitters to the State semifinals with a 3-0 win over Wheaton North.
"Really just watching a lot of film and reading my keys," Dunbar said of what made him so successful Saturday. ‘Plus knowing what Wheaton North does on offense and how they do it, made it a big day for me."
It was just another step for Glenbard West towards their ultimate goals.
"Since in the summer we made a couple goals," Dunbar said. "One was not to lose on our home field and the other was to do everything we could to go to a state championship."
He added, "We will see about that next week."
Glenbard West plays on a grass field, one of the only schools in the area -- which wasn't a good thing Saturday. Severe thunderstorms rolled through the area right before the game, which left the field muddy. And left the offenses out of luck, with a final score of 3-0 Glenbard West.
"Yeah, we used it to our advantage," Dunbard said. "We just embrace the grass field and use it to our advantage on a day like today."
Dunbar has been a hot name in recruiting lately, and talked about a school who he has been hearing from lately.
"I think that Missouri already offered a while back," Dunbar said. "I still don't know when I will be visiting but I definitely want to visit them."
"I am just looking for a good defense to play in," Dunbar said. "You know and the ability to get a good education and stuff."
