Florida DE explains commitment

Deondre Barnett is a talented defensive end prospect from Cocoa High and Scout caught up with him to discuss the latest.

Deondre Barnett just started playing football last year. He plays defensive end for one of the state's premier programs and has helped them reach the second round of the state playoffs this week.

"Our season is going pretty good," Barnett said. "I'm getting double teamed a lot lately, but I don't mind it helps free up the other side of our line. I lead my team in tackles, about 60 tackles, six sacks, and two forced fumbles."

Barnett, 6-foot-2 and 215 pounds, recently made his college decision and he talked about it.

"I recently verbally committed to UCF," he said. "UCF is doing doing great. They haven't lost in their conference. Next year they're moving to the Big East which will be a lot of exposure and be playing on TV every Saturday. Also, they have great academics there."

Barnett says he's developed a good relationship with a couple UCF coaches.

"I talk to Blaise Winter and Tyson Summers the most. We have a really good relationship, I'm real tight with Blaise Winter, we talk regularly. I talked to all the coaches though, I like all of them a lot."

Barnett likes the opportunity to go in and play right away.

"They said next year I can come in and have a chance to do a lot of speed rush on 3rd down and play some outside linebacker."

The standout defensive end prospect, who was offered by App State last week, talked about whether he's finished with recruiting.

"I look forward to getting more offers and possibly taking visits but as of now my commitment is solid to UCF," he said.
