Focus 2015: Jalen Briscoe

The Westgate Tigers finished the 2012 campaign with a bang; head coach Ryan Antoine will return a solid nucleus of starters next year, including sophomore defensive end Jalen Briscoe.

Jalen Briscoe started at both fullback and defensive end during his sophomore season at Westgate. The Tigers struggled to an 0-7 start but rebounded to win their last three.

"It felt good to win those games," said Briscoe, a 6-foot-1, 220-pounder. "It gave us more confidence. I had five sacks on the year.

"I play defensive end with Tae Thibodeaux on the other side. The two tackles are Jason Collins and Davante Brown."

All four starting defensive linemen are underclassmen.

"During the off-season, I'm going to find a job, throw the shot put in track and work on improving my 40 time," Briscoe said. "One of my highlights during the season was a blocked punt at homecoming.

"We hope to go far in the playoffs next year. A lot of good people are coming back. We'll have 32 seniors."

Westgate defeated playoff team Carencro on the road in week nine.

"Coach Antoine spoke to us before that game and told us to play for the seniors," Briscoe said. "We kept fighting all year."
